ART GALLERY OF NEW SOUTH WALES, 2013A re-design of the Franco and Amina Belgiorno-nettis and Family Contemporary Galleries creates a conceptual frame through which to perceive the works.
For the first time since their opening in 1988, the galleries have been architecturally reimagined. This collaboration has allowed the curatorial spread and architecture to create a journey that offers a new interpretation of the artworks.
The experience unfolds through interlinked rooms and corridors, with new walls soaring into the galleries’ coffered ceilings, while compressed spaces offer glimpses into other areas.
Visitors are taken on a spatial and emotional journey, from Polly Borland’s playfully dressed bodies, rich with sexual suggestion, to Tim Silver’s disintegrating sculpture of a stargazing boy.
The exhibition explores love’s varied language—joy, desire, eroticism, longing, loss, and memory.
