This master-plan for a discovery centre proposed a series of methods through which the public could gain direct experience of the RAMSAR listed Edithvale Seaford wetlands.

The Edithvale Seaford Wetlands is the remain portion of the Carrum Carrum downs wetlands. The wetlands is managed by Melbourne Water who commissioned this master-plan to set in place the framework for better public access and understanding its flora and fauna.

The project was instigated by volunteers who have been maintaining a bird hide on the site for many years. While the wetlands is protected by a RAMSAR listing it’s proximity to built up areas puts it at risk from arising from ignorance and negligence.

Thus, central to the master-plan is an ambition to better educate the immediate and broader community about the significance and sensitivity of the wetlands. This was ultimately manifest in an interpretive education centre, designed by us and completed in 2011.
